With so many lower calorie beverage options on the market, it can be very confusing to know which products are truly the best. For me, I am all about price, flavor and how many grams of added sugar per serving. So I have narrowed down my "Top 5" lower calorie beverage options.
Firstly, I try really hard to live a balanced lifestyle, and sometimes balance is allowing freedom of food options. I 100% believe you can achieve your performance and physique goals while also enjoying your favorite food and beverage options. However, if you are trying not to over-indulge in sugary drinks, I get that too. For example, per the Coca Cola website, there are 39 grams of sugar in a single 12-ounce Coca Cola can. Wow!
Because of this, I have trialed and errored so many "low cal" beverage drinks out there today. I did not rank these from my most liked beverage to least enjoyed, but I will say the first three options are the ones I most frequently enjoy:
I love this option because it is such a healthier version of a typical soda. It is sweetened with stevia extract and is non-GMO. Therefore, it is zero calories and does not contain artificial coloring extracts. Some contain caffeine while others are caffeine-free. A case can range anywhere from $5.99 for 6 cans to $9.99 for 12 cans. I really love buying it at Publix when they have BOGO's, but Wholefoods has a lot of varieties too. I typically buy Zevia from Publix, Target or Winn Dixie.
2. Cold Brew Coffee:
There are literally hundreds of lower-calorie options, but when it comes to coffees, my absolute favorite "go-to" is a cold brew coffee. A regular plain cold brew coffee is around 5 calories. You can customize yours with different cream options such as their cold-foam, 2% milk, almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk or soy milk! They also usually have sugar free flavor options such as vanilla, hazelnut, caramel or coconut! Right now, my favorite option is a Grande cold brew coffee, with sugar free hazelnut and cold foam. It is refreshing and is only around 15-20 calories, wow!
3. Zero Sugar Vitamin-Water:
Are you a very active person but also trying to watch your calories? I 10/10 recommend Zero Sugar Vitamin Water. This is a great alternative to your usual Gatorade/Powerade which can be loaded with a lot of added sugar. Do not get me wrong, there is a time and a place for sugar, but if you are looking for a tasty treat with 0 calories, this is it! My favorite flavor right now is their strawberry lemonade but I also love orange and dragonfruit! I also prefer these drink options because most stores contain them all across the country!
This drink has been my newest favorite lately! I really love this drink option because with only 25 calories and 5 grams of sugar, it is a sweet treat! My absolute favorite flavor is the cherry limeade but I also love watermelon. Additionally, each can is infused with apple cider vinegar and contains 2 grams of dietary fiber! It is a beverage with benefits! I usually find this at Target but I know there are a lot of online retailers as well. I really love that it is also vegan, gluten-free and Non-GMO.
5. GTS Alive Elixir:
So, I have been a long-time fan of the brand GTS because they are a company that really promotes health and well-being. They are originally known for their popular kombuchas (fermented teas), but they just launched these amazing elixirs! This is what their website states: "Bring your body into healthy harmony with the holistic influence of ancient, Ayuverdic tradition. Our 1800mg functional dose of Reishi, Chaga, and Turkey Tail mushrooms fortify immunity daily, help achieve and regulate homeostasis, and support the body’s natural ability to adapt to stressors through the ritualistic use of adaptogens". I really love that they are using functional mushrooms which have been used for centuries to combat disease. I also love their flavors, but my current favorite are: Cola, Root beer and Matcha Vanilla!
